I. Purpose
There are three purposes of the Engineering and Public Policy Division:
A. To encourage engineering students to acquire better appreciation for the manner in which policy decisions are made on technological issues and the role of the engineer in that process.
B. To provide a mechanism for establishing communications between public-policy decision-makers and engineering faculty and students in technology-policy-making.
C. To encourage engineers and engineering students to contribute professionally to the resolution of technology-intensive policy issues.
These purposes shall be accomplished by programs at the ASEE Annual Conference, Section Meetings, and other forms of communication. The Division shall also promote interaction between ASEE members and individuals in all branches of government.
II. Officers
The officers of the Division shall be a Chairman, a Vice-Chairman/Program Chairman, a Secretary, and a Newsletter Editor.
III. Election of Officers
Officers shall be elected by mail ballot which will be distributed by the Nominating Committee to all Division members no later than April 1 of each year. Ballots must be returned by May 1 of the same year.
IV. Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall consist of the Officers named above and the immediate past Chairman. The ASEE Director of Projects and Federal Relations shall be an ex-officio member of the Executive Committee.
V. Committees
Standing committees of the Division shall be two: the Annual Conference Program Committee and the Nominating Committee.
The Nominating Committee shall be appointed by the Chairman and announced at the annual business meeting of the Division.
Other committees which may be necessary may be appointed on an ad hoc basis by the Chairman and Established as standing committees, if deemed necessary, by the Executive Committee.
VI. Changes in Bylaws
Changes in the Bylaws may be approved by a majority vote of the members attending the annual business meeting of the Division, which will be scheduled during the Annual Conference of the Society. Proposed changes must be distributed to Division members at least 30 days prior to the annual business meeting.
